Digging through the book of proverb

Proverb 12: 3 “You can’t stand firm footing in a swamp, but life rooted in God stands firm.”

There is nothing that gives a stand firms in life as when you are rooted in God. It is in Him we live; we breathe and have our being. He is the only sure support we have for a successful journey in this life. Anything outside God is like a swamp which can never give the kind of support we need to be successful. We can only derive the right nutrients when we have our root in God and a life that is full of joy will be ours.

It is an effort in futility when we take a human being as our support because a human being is limited in resources, limited in capacity and also limited in continuity.

Make it a duty to always lift your eyes to God, for it is in Him alone you can find help.

Instruction is for those who care

Proverb 9: 7 – 9 ” If you reason with an arrogant cynic, you will get slapped in the face; confront bad behavior and get a kick in the shins. so don’t waste your time on scoffer; all you ‘ll get for your pains is abuse. But if you correct those who care about life, that’s different – they’ll love you for it! Save your breath for the wise- they’ll be wiser for it; tell good people what you know – they’ll profit from it.”

Isn’t it amazing that the same advice you give to a person that profit him get you into a problem with another person?

The difference between the two set of people described above is their perspective about life. The first person cares about life and wants to get it right, so he embraces instruction while the other person has a carefree attitude about life having no glimpse about how life works and doesn’t even want to know. This carefree attitude always leads to destruction because a life that is not guided by an instruction is heading to destruction.

Wisdom requires you to know the category of person you are giving advice to lest you get abuse for all your pains and labor over him. Be generous with your advice but tread a caution so as to avoid a slap from a scoffer.

Do not despise instruction

Proverb 1: 8 – 9 ” My son, hear the instruction of your father, do not forsake the law of your mother; for they will be a graceful ornament on your head, and chains about your neck”

Instructions are very vital to any major success in life. If you ever notice that there is no exam that does not carry specific instructions on it, those instructions always come on the front page of any exam. It is a general knowledge that failure starts when instructions are not adhered to.

Proverb 1: 33 also says ” But whoever listens to me(wisdom) will dwell safely, and will be secure, without fear of evil”
Instructions are direct wisdom pass to us for us to be safe and secure.

Do not despise instructions; it is a vital key to success.

The danger of complacency
Proverb 1: 32 ” For the turning away of the simple will slay them, and the complacency of fools will destroy them”
Wordweb define complacent as “uncritically satisfied with oneself or one’s actions; not looking to improve”

To be satisfied with oneself or one’s action is to see oneself as being perfect and not seeking for improvement. The moment such an attitude set in you start degenerating in values. To remain a success in life you must improve yourself daily: it is to be better at what you do and the way you see things.

Let us imagine a river that is not flowing, with time it becomes dirty and smelling because of its inability to flow continuously. The same is also applicable to us when we stop improving in every area of our lives we start dying gradually.

It is wisdom at work when you are improving on a daily basis and that is the hallmark of success.

Walking with understanding

Proverb 2: 10 – 11 “when wisdom enters your heart, and knowledge is pleasant to your soul, discretion will preserve you; understanding will keep you”

There is nothing as helpful when you walk with discretion and understanding. Discretion is the quality of having or showing discernment or good judgment or the ability to make a responsible decision. Making quality decision can only be possible if there is a better understanding of whatsoever you want to decide on. That is the reason while you must equip yourself with the necessary knowledge and allow wisdom (applied knowledge) to enter your heart. It is only then you can be preserved and secured from making a grave error.

In order to live effectively and successive, you must walk with understanding and discretion.

Don’t shun friends in their bitter moment

Proverb 14: 10 ” The person who shuns the bitter moments of friends will be an outsider at their celebration”
The genuinely of friendship is measured by your ability to stay put with your friends during their awkward moment.

There is always a moment in life when things may not be sweet and all you will want to see are the voice of your friends. You will want to hear their advice, their support and comfort; these are what make friendship enjoyable and healthy.

Life is about time and season, there are times when things will be bad while there are times when you will be celebrating. It is only those that are with you during your down time that is qualified to be your people during your celebration.

Always make sure you are with your friends throughout any time or season in their life. This very act is a display of wisdom and a level of understanding of how things ought to be done properly in life.

You will always command respect for showing care and love to your friends during their bitter moment. People will always respect a man of value and it is worthy to note that love and care are great values.
