There is a need to emphasis that God is not against you as a christian being a business man or woman. Some people are of the school of thought that you can’t be a good christian as a business. This kind of thought is not true from the biblical point of view and from the life of a man that I want to use as reference.
Some also perceive the demands of successful business as a stumbling block to a good walk with God. The major reason why some think in that way is because money is involve in business and they believe money is the root of all evil. This is also not true.
Story of David Green
David Green came from a poor background and he is a son of a preacher. He is from a Christian home where all their lives are based on biblical principles. He is committed to use profits from his business to help ministry work.
“God is not averse to business, he’s not just a Sunday Deity and he understands margins, spreadsheets, competition and profits…..David Green”
David Green, founder of Hobby Lobby, opened his first retail business in 1970 with $600 in start up capital and parlayed it into a $2 billion per year retailing giant with 434 stores. Forbes® estimates his personal fortune to exceed $3 Billion, making him one of the richest people in the world. By the world’s standards, he is a remarkable success. However, what makes him an even greater success is his commitment to sharing his faith in Jesus Christ through his business. From spending thousands each year to advertise in newspapers the Gospel during the Christmas and Easter holidays, to playing Christian music in his stores, closing on Sundays and altogether operating his business according to biblical principles.
David Green’s quotes
“It is by God’s grace and provision that Hobby lobby endured. Therefore, we seek to honour God by operating the company in a manner consistent with biblical principles”
“Business owners should not have to choose between violating their faith and violating the law”
“You need an attitude of service. You’re not just serving yourself. You help others to grow up and you grow with them”
“You can’t learn if you don’t try”
“Giving is above what we owe God, and that is our tithes.”
I believe the life of this man has shown us clearly that God is not against your business, infact He wants to use your business as a tool for the glorification of His name. That you are in business doesn’t make you an outcast before God rather your business is an act of worship to God.
