5 Cheap Universities In Canada For International Students 2022

There are relatively cheap universities for international students who want to study in Canada. The tuition fee for some of the schools might not be affordable when considering other expenses one will incur when intending to study abroad.

Studying abroad for both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes is a bit expensive for international students. For example, a student from Nigeria will have to battle with the current exchange rate which is very high. So, settling for a low tuition fee school is always an option for a student who wants to study abroad and doesn’t want to incur many costs.

According to Statistics Canada, the average tuition fees for undergraduate international students in 2019/20 are CA$29714 (~US$22,500) per year. Humanities courses tend to be cheaper (averaging $5,542), while subjects such as engineering and medicine are among the more expensive (an average of CA$21,717 (~US$16,446) for dentistry and $14,162 (~US$10,724) for Medicine. Fees for business and management courses are lower than the national average, at CA$6,827 (~US$5,170) per year.

From the above statistics, studying at a university will tuition fees below $22,000 is cheaper because that amount is below the national average.

I won’t only list the universities in Canada that are cheap here, I will ensure the schools have a good ranking in the world. There is no point in studying at a University that is cheap but has a poor world ranking. Being cheap doesn’t mean the standard of the school should be low.

Memorial University of Newfoundland

Memorial University has notable strengths in wide range of other areas including natural resources, health, technology, social enterprise, innovation and entrepreneurship, climate change and social justice. As one of Canada’s top 20 research universities, Memorial has attracted millions of dollars in sponsored research funding.

The current tuition fee for an international student is $20,000. The school ranks 601–800th in World University Rankings.

College of the North Atlantic

The College of the North Atlantic has some of the lowest tuition fees of any post-secondary institution in Atlantic Canada, at approximately $726 per semester for most programmes.

The college is a community and technical college that offers programmes and courses across a range of areas including accounting, environmental design, chemistry, software development and project management among many others. The school offers nearly 100 full-time programme offerings and more than 300 part-time courses.

For international students, the tuition fee is $3,795.00

University of Manitoba

University of Manitoba is also one of the universities with low tuition fees in Canada. The university serves nearly 30,000 students and around 15 percent of the student body is made up of international students from 111 countries worldwide. It offers a large study abroad programme where students can choose from 36 countries to take part in service-learning, internships, or exchange programmes.

The tuition fee for international students is between $18,100 – $28,900.  Your specific tuition fees will be dependent on your number of course credit hours and which faculty or school offers those specific courses.

Brandon University

Brandon University was established in 1900 and was then established as a liberal arts institution. A school of music was added in 1906. Students can choose courses from the faculty of arts, the faculty of education, the faculty of graduate studies, the faculty of science, the faculty of health studies and the school of music.

The tuition fee for international students ranges from $3,905 – $15,000. According to 4icu, the school ranks 1864 in the world.

University of Saskatchewan

The University of Saskatchewan is a research-lead university situated in the picturesque city of Saskatoon, Canada. Founded in 1907, the university is especially renowned for its contributions to medical research. Although the university offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in over 200 subjects, it has gained particular recognition in the fields of agriculture, engineering, the environment and veterinary medicine.

The university is one of the cheap schools in Canada for international students. The tuition fee for international students ranges from $6,978 – $19,467.

According to TimesHigherEducation, the university ranks 501–600th in the world.
