To be happy is to be free of worries, fears, negative feelings, and other emotions that aren’t good for a sound mind. I searched within my deepest heart and I was able to extract how to be happy and those things that can make one be happy in life.
My findings are very simple and easy to practice. If you can make it your daily habit, you will experience true happiness in every day of your life.
Steps to true happiness in life
The steps I want to give will show you how to be happy in life every day:
- Owe no man anything except love
The first thing to a journey of all-around happiness is to love yourself and love people around you. One of the major reasons why people are sad is because they fail to appreciate and love who they are. They always want to be someone else because they have come to believe that they are a mistake born into this world. You are beautifully and wonderfully made, you are an asset and not a mistake.
If you want to have a good feeling, Say good words to yourself. Try words like Jane you are beautiful, Tayo you are smart, I just love myself, etc. Words like these will make you elated, motivated, encouraged, and eventually make you feel happy.
Furthermore, you have to love people around you. Your love shouldn’t depend on how good they are to you or on their performance. Choose to show kindness, care, and love people around you. By doing this
- Avoid debt
Accumulation of debt can lead to worry and depression. And it is very difficult to be happy if you know you are living in debt. Try as much as possible to live a debt free life and you will experience true happiness.
- Eat a good and balanced diet meal
A balanced meal makes one be in a good state of mind. I have discovered that whenever I eat a good meal and as well balanced, I always have good feelings.
According to an article published from Harvard health, the benefits of exercise were discussed and the article pointed out that exercise improves mood and sleep, and reduces stress and anxiety. Furthermore, brainflux pointed out that exercise has the ability to restore positive feelings, make you resilient to stressful situations, and might even increase your happiness levels.
Forgive yourself for past mistakes, misdeed, and failure. People with loads of un-forgivingness in their heart are always sad and bitter. Likewise, forgive people that offend you and hold no grudge against anyone.
- Don’t be offended by people
This does happen when you believe in someone and later become disappointed because they fail to measure up to the level you have placed him/her. Always have a large heart to accommodate any form of disappointment from anyone.
- Have a merry heart: Laugh and smile always
A merry heart naturally produces a good laughter, a good countenance, and also it does good like a medicine.
- Don’t dwell on the past
Any attempt to dwell on what has happened in the past always makes the heart sick and weary. So let the past go with the past and face what lies ahead.
- Live a giving life
From my own personal experience, I discovered that I do feel happy when I give people who are in need, provide solutions, make an impact, etc. A life devoted to making difference in the life of other people always bring happiness.
Think on these things “whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue and if there be any praise”
- Do what you love doing
There is nothing that brings true joy to one’s heart than seeing yourself do what you love doing. It can also be put in this way “follow your passion or follow your heart”
- Do away with negative people and negative environment
The kind of friend you keep and the environment you find yourself can sometimes determine your mood. If you are in the midst of happy people definitely you will be happy.
- Don’t bit more than you can chew
Another reason why many people are frustrated in life is that they have bit more than what they can chew.
- Always express and communicate your mind
You die gradually when you have loads of things you ought to have expressed but have failed to do. Many people die inside and are even deprived of their right because of their failure to express and communicate their mind. I have noticed that anytime I need to speak up on some issues but fails to do, I do feel sad. For you to be happy you have to speak up and express your mind so as to avoid betraying yourself.
- Be hopeful
Always keep hope alive, be optimistic, and never give up. One thing I know is that when what you hope for comes, it always brings about a happy moment.
