How successful a nation would be is a function of the leader and the leader’s cronies.
Gen 41: 33 – 40″ Now, therefore, let Pharaoh look out a man discreet and wise, and set him over the land of Egypt. Let Pharaoh do this, and let him appoint officers over the land, and take up the fifth part of the land of Egypt in the seven plenteous years. And let them gather all the food of those good years that come, and lay up corn under the hand of Pharaoh, and let them keep food in the cities. And that food shall be for store to the land against the seven years of famine, which shall be in the land of Egypt; that the land perishes not through the famine. And the thing was good in the eyes of Pharaoh, and in the eyes of all his servants. And Pharaoh said unto his servants, Can we find such a one as this is, a man in whom the Spirit of God is? And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, forasmuch as God hath shewed thee all this, there is none so discreet and wise as thou art: Thou shalt be over my house, and according to unto thy word shall all my people be ruled: only in the throne will I be greater than thou. ”
Every country or organization has a leader that has been given the mandate by the people to direct, control and manage the affairs of the country or the organization. It is the responsibility of such leader to surround himself with cronies that are capable to assist in moving such nation forward. These cronies must be alert mentally and physically in order to deliver maximally. The success of every leader depends on the kind of people he surrounds himself with.
Leaders begin to fail when they start surrounding themselves with people that lack strategies and the intellectual capacity to deliver maximally.
From the verse of the scripture I quoted, Pharaoh had a dream and he became concerned immediately after the dream. He started consulting people he thought would be able to demystify the dream and bring the solution. This shows a man that sincerely needs an answer to his problem. A good leader believes that in the multitude of counsel there is always a safety since they are good listeners who have an open mind to receive the right counsel from people. The quality of perspectives or suggestions they will get depends on the quality of people around them.
One of Africa’s problems is that most leaders are ignorant and their ignorance led them to surround themselves with shallow thinkers, noise makers, and intellectually bankrupt cronies. Having this kind of people is the reason why majority make poor decisions whenever they need help.
Ideally, a leader that knows the enormous task of leadership and has the interest of his nation at heart will be strategic in choosing his cronies. However, what is obtainable in this part of the world are leaders that are just power hungry and greedy.
Success is not far fetched when a leader surrounds himself with cronies who understand time and season and can also provide timely solutions to any problem the nation is facing. These are the kind of people that should be seen around the corridor of power for any serious leader.
