Why you should be careful of the influence you have on your children

Psalm 127: 4 – 5 ” Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are children born in one’s youth. Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them. They will not be put to shame when they contend with their opponents in court”

It is a common knowledge that how far the arrow goes depend on the force applied by the archer. The archers in this context are the parents. Parents have a significant amount of influence on their children, for this reason, they should not forget the high value of integrity in the home.

There is a short story I want to narrate and this story was narrated by R. C. sprout, in his book “Objections Answered” The story is about a Jewish young boy. He grew up in Germany many years ago. He loved his father because the father saw to it that the life of revolved around their religious belief. The boy’s family moved to another town in Germany during his teen’s year. This town had no synagogue except Lutheran church. The life of the community revolved around the Lutheran church and all best people belonged to it. There was a particular day the father decided that they will join the Lutheran church and abandon their Jewish tradition. The family was stunned and asked why; the father said it was good for his business (the father saw the church as a vehicle for his business). This statement got the young boy disappointed and it soon gave way to anger and a kind of bitterness that plagued him throughout his life.

One of the effects of that statement made by his father made him describe religion has the “opiate for the masses”. He also led his followers to a life without God. He is the founder of the communist movement.

Whatsoever you misrepresent now as a parent can later hurt your children later in the future. Children have a way of multiplying our actions and inactions in life. Beyond where we can reach and what we can achieve, our children can reach and achieve much more. Parents must be consistent in their thought and action, there must not be a misrepresentation. They must also maintain a high standard in life because they are the first leader and model children know. What parents speak and their action must be the same.

Don’t sow a deadly seed in the life of your children. The effect may live long.
