Career Option of Physiotherapy And Admission Requirements in Nigeria

I want to use this article to address some questions students who wish to study physiotherapy have been hoping to get answers to them. It is important to note that physiotherapists are self-reliant professionals who take active roles in the prevention of disease and the advancement of wellness, as well as physical fitness and rehabilitation.

I will try to provide answers that will be satisfying based on the research I have made on the course.

According to an article published by Akinpelu et al., a group of physiotherapists at the University of Ibadan, they said that Physiotherapists in Nigeria is perceived as a profession having moderate occupational prestige, meaning it is a marketable and desirable profession. And this prestige placed it in the fifth position below accountant, lawyer, doctor, and engineer in Nigeria.

He further stated that occupation prestige is measured on five levels, which are levels of income, education, social standing, responsibility, and usefulness to the society. By these five dimensions, he was able to establish that the course has a moderate occupational prestige in Nigeria.

Life is about what you are passionate about and not necessary about the views or opinions of the people around you. Choosing physiotherapy as a career isn’t a bad idea, and I can assure you that you will be successful if you are focused and determined.

Some of the things that will make you successful as a physiotherapist are a good character, ability, and personal acceptability, and level of intelligence and education.

It is a dynamic profession that offers numerous opportunities in terms of research, clinical practice, and academic learning.

Lastly, I was able to gather that the average salary after considering the entry-level position, mid-level position, and senior level position is N150,000.
