JAMB Cut Off Mark For Medicine and Surgery In Nigeria

The JAMB cut off mark for Medicine and Surgery in Nigeria for most Universities is 200. It isn’t a surprise that the score is a little bit high even though the minimum mark by JAMB is 180 for all Nigerian Universities.

Many Universities like UI, UNILAG, UNIBEN, IMSU, OAU, UNN, ABU, LASU, UNILORIN, etc., prefer to peg their cut-off mark for medicine and surgery at 200 because of the high volume of applications they receive from students who want to study the course in the University. Conversely, schools like LASU have a minimum mark for medicine, which is 190.

However, meeting the JAMB cut-off mark for medicine does not guarantee that you will be offered admission to study the course. Your performance in the Post-UTME will determine whether you will be admitted.

In reality, scoring around 200–230 isn’t a fantastic mark that can allow you to study medicine and surgery. The reason is that you will need to score close to 90% in Post-UTME to balance the deficit of your JAMB result.

How Nigerian Universities Calculate Overall cut off mark for Medicine

Most universities use WAEC, JAMB, and PUTME scores to determine the overall cut-off mark.

For example, UNILAG will divide your UTME result by 8, add it with the post-UTME score (over 30), and O’level which makes 20% of the mark. So, this means you must get an overall grade to be a medical student.

Finally, I advise candidates seeking admission to have a minimum score of 250 in JAMB. This score will enable them to be in the race despite the competitiveness of the course.
