Subjects Required to Study Mass Communication in Nigerian Universities

There are some questions I will like to answer using this page for candidates who want to study mass communication in the university. Some of the top questions are:

  • Can I study mass communication without literature in English?
  • Can I study mass comm. Without Economics?

Before I can answer the question above, I will like to give the admission requirement to study the course as approved by JAMB.

Admission requirements for Mass Communication

O’level: Five (5) SSC credit passes in English Language and four (4) other subjects in Arts or Social Sciences.

Direct Entry: Two (2) ‘A’ Level passes in Arts or Social Science subjects

The above requirements are general but a close look suggests that most universities want a credit pass in literature in English.

Furthermore, economics is not as important as literature to study mass communication. Some universities accept commerce in lieu of economics.
