CHT Calabar Courses And Admission Requirements
Are you seeking admission into the College of Health Technology Calabar? The courses are fifteen in number, some are certificate, HND, ND, and diploma programme.
Below are the list of courses offered at the college:
PUBLIC HEALTH NURSING
Duration: 2 years
Admission requirements
- Nigerian Registered Nurse (NRN).
- National Diploma or its equivalent in Nursing.
- Holders of the above must possess the basic O’ level credits in English, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and Physics.
ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH OFFICER (ND)
Duration: two/four years
Admission requirements
Minimum entry requirement into National Diploma (ND) in Environmental Health Science Programme is five (5) O’ level credits in English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics and Biology or Health Science in either WAEC/NECO at not more than two sittings. Candidates with JAMB score of 150 and above have added advantage.
ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH TECHNICIAN
Duration: 3 years
It is a diploma programme
Admission requirements
Minimum of 5 passes in O’level WASSC/SSCE/GCE/NECO at not more than 2 sittings. Three (3) of the passes must be at credit level and should include English Language, Biology or Health Science, Geography, Physics, Chemistry, Agricultural Science, Technical Drawing and any other subject.
ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH ASSISTANTS
Duration: two years
This is a certificate programme
Admission requirements
Four (4) O’level passes which should include at least one science subject (Biology, Chemistry, Health Science, Nutrition, Physics). A pass in English Language will be an added advantage.
HEALTH PROMOTION AND EDUCATION
Duration: three years
It is a HPE diploma programme
Admission requirements
Four (4) credits in SSCE, NECO, GCE or Teachers Grade II to include English Language, Mathematics, Biology/Health Science and any other subject.
COMMUNITY HEALTH EXTENSION WORKER (CHEW)
Duration: 3 years
Admission requirements
Five (5) Credit level passes at WASSC/SSCE/GCE/NECO O’ level not more than two (2) sittings.
These must include: English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Health Science. Also, candidates with JCHEW certificates have an added advantage.
JUNIOR COMMUNITY HEALTH EXTENSION WORKER (JCHEW)
Duration: 2 years
This is a certificate programme
Admission requirements
Three (3) credits and two (2) passes at O’ level WASSC or NECO in not more than two sittings to include English Language, Mathematics, Biology/Health Science and any other two subjects.
PROFESSIONAL DIPLOMA IN HEALTH INFORMATION MGT
Duration: 3 years
Admission requirements
Five credits in O’ level at not more than two sittings at the SSCE/WASSC or its equivalent. The subjects must include: English Language, Mathematics, Biology or Health Science, Physics or Chemistry and any other subject.
ND HEALTH INFORMATION MANAGEMENT
Duration: 2 years
Requirements
Five (5) O’ level credits in English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics and Biology or Health Science in either WAEC/NECO at not more than two sittings. Only candidates with JAMB score of 150 and above are eligible.
HND HEALTH INFORMATION MANAGEMENT
Duration: 2 years
Requirements
National Diploma (ND) in H.I.M with a minimum of lower credit. Health Record Technician Certificate with a minimum of lower credit and five (5) O’ level credits in English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics and Biology or Health Science in either WAEC/NECO at not more than two sittings. Candidates must have completed one year industrial attachment. Those with ND with initial JAMB score of 150 are not required to write JAMB. However, candidates without ND certificates are required to have a JAMB score of 160 and above.

PHARMACY TECHNICIAN
Duration: 3 years
Admission requirements
Five (5) credits at not more than two (2) sittings in WASSC/SSCE/GCE/NECO in the following subjects: English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology.
MEDICAL LABORATORY TECHNICIAN
Duration: 3 years
Requirements
WASSC/SSCE/GCE/NECO – Four credit passes in the following subjects: English Language, Mathematics, Biology and Chemistry with at least a pass in Physics. (Results more than ten years as the date of this registration will be rejected by the Registration Board). Holders of Medical Lab. Assistant certificate with the above O’ level.
DISPENSING OPTICIANRY
Duration: three years
Admission requirements
Four (4) credit passes at not more than two (2) sittings in WASSC/SSCE/GCE/NECO in the following subjects: English Language, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and Physics with a minimum of pass in English Language or Mathematics. A candidate with a minimum of 10 years cognate experience in optical dispensing (apprenticeship), who has two or three credits in any of these subjects may also be considered for admission.
COMPUTER SCIENCE
Duration: two years
Admission requirements
Four credit level passes in WASSC/SSCE/GCE/NECO at not more than two sittings. The four subjects must include Mathematics, Physics, English Language and any other subject. JAMB score of 150 and above (JAMB subjects are English Language, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry).
Candidates with a pass in Computer Foundation Examination (CFE) of the Computer Professionals Registration Council of Nigeria (CPN) are also accepted. Such candidates must also have credit passes in the required O’ level subjects.
RADIOGRAPHY (MEDICAL IMAGING PROCESSING TECHNICIAN)
Duration: 3 years
Admission requirements
Five (5) credit passes at not more than two (2) sittings in WASSC/SSCE/GCE/NECO in the following subjects: English Language, Mathematics plus either Physics, Chemistry or Biology and any other two (2) subjects.
Professional qualification:
Holder of Certificate in Medical Dark Room Practice (Dark Room Asst. Certificate) plus the above stated requirements will require two (2) years training for Medical Dark Room Technician Programme.
