How to know the type of course to study in the university

It is common to hear children say I want to become a doctor, an engineer, a lawyer, etc. These three professions are the most common and everybody wants to study in school. They are good professions but the truth is that not everybody will become a doctor, an engineer, or a lawyer. There is a need for children to be properly guided so that they won’t believe no other courses exist besides those top three.

The society has portrayed those professions as the only hot cake, so most students believe that if they don’t study one of those courses they can’t make it in life. This has made students fail to look inward (what they are passionate about) before they choose a course that fits them to study at the University. This is the reason why these courses have many candidates who applied for them when compared to other courses. This has led to disappointment and students staying for years at home without securing admission into the university.

If you know the course to study, it won’t be difficult to gain admission into the university. Because it will be easy for you to meet the requirements and most importantly you will make a good grade at the end of your university education.

Here are the steps to know how to choose a course that fits you:

1. Subjects you find easy

For example, mathematics is easy for me to handle and I don’t prepare much if I want to write a mathematics exam. This may not be true for you. Going to study a course where a good knowledge of mathematics is needed may be a wrong decision for you.

You have to look at what the course you are putting in for requires and check it with subjects you find easy. This will help you to make an informed decision.

2. Subjects that interest you

Anything that interests you is a sign that there is something about such a thing that naturally arouses your interest. Any subject you don’t find interesting is a sign that your field of study shouldn’t be in that line. For example, I have a student who naturally loves physics, her Cambridge A-level point is enough for her to study Medicine and Surgery. But she decided to study physics because of her interest in Physics.

3. A course that arouses your curiosity

When you are eager to investigate and learn or learn more about a course, it is a course to study at the university. This course will naturally make you go at any length to acquire knowledge and learn or learn more. Thus, you won’t need anybody to motivate you before you study or perform at your best to do everything possible to meet the requirements of the course.

4. A course you have an idea of what you want to achieve with it and how you can use it to better the lives of people

It is not that my friend is studying medicine so I must do the same. What is driving you is the big picture of the course in your heart.

Lastly, you shouldn’t choose a course because of its popularity so that you don’t become frustrated and disappointed. Love must be at the center of the course you want to study and the belief that you will make it in such field.
