List Of Nigerian Tertiary Institutions that Accept Second Choice

I have seen a lot of questions where intending students want to know the Nigerian universities and Polytechnics that accept second choice. This is the major reason why I wrote this article to provide the solution to the questions. The admission committee of most of the tertiary institutions in Nigeria prefers candidates who choose them as their first choice.

The landscape has changed a bit. What candidates do now is that they purchase the change of institution form if they notice their chances of being offered admission are low.

The universities below accept the second choice.

  • Taraba State University
  • Abia State University
  • Federal University of Technology, Minna
  • University of Port Harcourt
  • University of Maiduguri
  • Olabisi Onabanjo University

I will answer the questions above based on the past admission requirements of the Universities in Nigeria. However, admission requirements change in every academic session, so it is important you keep up to date with the University or Polytechnic of your choice.

Olabisi Onabanjo University

OOU is a state university and their Post UTME condition is that candidates who chose OOU as first or second choice in Jamb and had met the JAMB cut-off mark can apply. This implies that OOU accept second choice for admission if you meet other requirements.

University of Benin

UNIBEN is a federal university and they only consider candidates who chose the University of Benin as their First Choice and had met the JAMB cut-off mark are eligible for this Screening Exercise.

Delta State University

Delta State University accepts candidates who chose Delsu as their first choice of University, and meet the JAMB cut-off mark are eligible to apply to the university. These were the conditions for previous admission into the university. This means Delsu considers first choice only.

Lagos State University

The previous admission shows that candidates Candidates who chose Lasu as their first choice in the Jamb examination and had met the JAMB cut-off mark can apply. Candidates who chose the university as their second choice should not apply.

University of Osun

Uniosun only accept candidates who chose them as first choice and had met the JAMB cut off mark.

Federal University of Technology Owerri

Some of the FUTO conditions for admission for the previous academic session are:

  1. Candidates who chose FUTO as First Choice University
  2. Candidates who did not choose FUTO as First Choice University but had met the jamb cut off mark can apply

  4. University Of Lagos
  5. Usman Danfodio University
  6. University of Nigeria
  7. Plateau State University
  8. Ondo State University of Science and Technology
  9. Kebbi State University of Science and Technology
  10. Federal University of Petroleum Resources
  11. Nasarawa State University
  12. Federal University Lokoja
  13. Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria
  14. Federal University Dutsin-Ma
  15. Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta
  16. Sokoto State University

All polytechnics accept the second choice for their admission

  • Abia State Polytechnic Aba
  • Kaduna Polytechnics
  • Federal Polytechnic Bida Niger state
  • Petroleum Training Institute
  • Yaba College of Technology
  • Polytechnic Ibadan
  • Federal Polytechnic Ede
