Pharmacy in Nigerian Universities and Admission Requirements

Pharmacy is the art and science of preparing and dispensing drugs and medicines to treat ailments. It can also be defined as the health profession that links the health sciences with the chemical sciences, and it is charged with ensuring the safe and effective use of pharmaceutical drugs.

Pharmacists are the experts on drug therapy and are the primary health professionals who optimize medication use to provide patients with positive health outcomes.

Admission Requirements

WAEC subject combination for Pharmacy: Five SSCE credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology. There are special considerations for jamb subject combination for the course. The special considerations are listed below

(i) IBADAN Same as in Medicine and Surgery.

(ii) LAGOS requires Physics, Chemistry and Biology in Addition to English Language and Mathematics

(iii) NDU requires the five ‘O’ level credit passes in not more than two sittings.

(iv) UNN and UYO – Requirements in not more than two sittings.

JAMB subject combination for pharmacy: English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology.

Candidates that want to study Pharmacy must score at least 200 in JAMB.
