How To Gain Admission To Study Economics In Nigerian University

Economics is one of the competitive courses in Nigerian University due to the high demand of Economists in Nigeria. It is one of the best fields of studies at the University because of its high employability rate in the country. As an Economist, you can work in places like KPMG, PWC, Ernest & Young, Deloitte Nigeria, Banks, etc.

Economics is a four-year course in Nigerian University. So, to gain admission to study it in the University there are certain things you need to know that will give you an edge over other candidates. Among the things you need to know is that you must meet the basic requirements of the course.

There is a need for you to know that some Universities grouped Economics under Faculty of Administration while others placed it under Faculty of Social/Management Science.

General Admission Requirements

  • Direct Entry: Two (2) ‘A’ level passes in Economics and any one (1) of Mathematics, Statistics, Geography, Physics, Chemistry, Agricultural Science, Accounting, Business Management, History, and Government.
  • O’level: Five (5) SSC credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Economics and any two (2) of Arts or Social Science subjects.
  • JAMB subject combination for Economics: Economics, Mathematics and any of Government, History, Geography, Literature in English, French and Christian Religious Studies /Islamic Studies.

You have to make sure that you have an excellent WAEC/NECO result, score at least 200 In JAMB, and have an excellent Post-UTME score (preferably 70% and above)
