How to gain admission into Obafemi Awolowo University

Obafemi Awolowo University Ile-Ife, OAU is one of the most preferred Universities by most students. Despite their incessant strike high number of students do choose the university in JAMB. One of the reasons is that the undergraduate courses offered in OAU are well taught and handled by lecturers who know what they are doing.

This shows that OAU has been known for offering quality education to students. To be offered admission into the institution you must meet all their admission requirements.

OAU doesn’t give room for applicants who only daydream about the school but for applicants who are giving the required commitment and effort needed to gain admission into the school.

There are courses in Nigeria that are known to be competitive because of their employability rate and also they are well-known fields of study.

Those fields of study include Medicine and Surgery, Pharmacy, Electrical / Electronic engineering, Mechanical engineering, Nursing, Civil engineering, Architecture, etc.

It requires that you be prepared and determined to give it all it takes for you to be offered admission into one of these courses.

Many students don’t know what it requires to be offered admission into one of the above courses. Thus, they see it as one of those courses they can fill aimlessly in their JAMB registration form and think a miracle will happen and they will be given admission.

It is not a surprise that OAU is one of the universities applicants like to choose as their first choice to study one of these courses; Medicine and Surgery, Nursing, Pharmacy, Electrical engineering, Mechanical engineering, Civil engineering, etc.

Your admission will be determined firstly by how well you did in the West African Senior Secondary School Certificate (WASSCE) or GCE/NECO. I think having at least Mathematics (B), English (B), Chemistry (B), Biology (B), Physics (B) for science students and Bs also for Art and social students will make your chance to be relatively high.

Below are the few courses I will discuss their admission requirements out of the many courses in OAU

Medicine and Surgery

UTME subject: Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.

WASSEC result: Five SSCE credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.

NOTE

For students interested in writing Cambridge “A” level which will enable you to secure admission into 200 level in OAU, you have a great task ahead. Although the task isn’t as difficult as some students perceive it to be, you must target AT LEAST 15 points: AAB.

OAU “A level” point for medicine and engineering is between 13-16 points. Although the A level point is subject to change.

You need to score relatively high in UTME for you to gain admission into OAU. I do advise students to aim at scoring above 250 for them to have good standing.

An upper credit or distinction is required for direct entry for OND/HND in relevant courses. I will advise students in this category to target distinction for them to stand a better chance.

Lastly, since institutions have now been given the go-ahead to conduct post-UTME, you should prepare well for OAU post-UTME for your chances to be high.

This write up is ENTIRELY MY OPINION. This is just an attempt to give applicants some OAU admission head-ups and some level of advantage in their admission pursuit.
