Why you should consider School Fees while Registering for JAMB
The choice of Universities or Polytechnics you will choose should be based on many factors. One of them is the school fees which I will explain in the article.
If you know you can’t afford the school fees, you shouldn’t bother to choose the school while registering for JAMB.
The school fees of Federal Universities are different from state universities and private universities in Nigeria. And the difference is significantly noticed
The Nigerian public schools comprise Federal Universities, state universities, federal Polytechnics, state polytechnics, Federal colleges of Education, state colleges of Education, etc.
I will try to discuss the tuition fees of each of the public and private schools in Nigeria
If you are looking for schools in Nigeria where the tuition fee is affordable, you have to consider Federal Universities and Polytechnics. There are Federal universities in Nigeria where their school fees are not more than N25,000 naira per session.
Examples of such universities include FUTA, UI, OAU, UNIBEN, FUNAAB, etc. depending on the course of study (fee for medical students will be different from management students, however, it still affordable).
However, the fee for new students is a little bit higher due to acceptance fees (it ranges from N10,000 to N30,000 depending on the institution) and other fees charged by the school from fresh students. However, the amount is relatively affordable when compared to other schools in Nigeria.
The amount paid in state schools is a little bit higher when compared to federal schools. The majority of state universities pay as high as N50,000 excluding the acceptance fee which is to be paid by new students.
One hedge state schools have over federal schools for students seeking admission is that they are not as competitive as Federal universities.
If you can afford the fees, you have a better chance of gaining admission especially if you are an indigene where the school is situated.
Private schools are the most expensive universities in Nigeria. And one of the reasons is that the schools are self-funded. There is no aid from the government or external grant to assist in subsidizing the tuition fees for the schools.
The school fees of most private universities in Nigeria range from N350,000 – N1,000,000. To get the exact amount payable, you can visit the school website to get accurate information. Private schools are the easiest to gain admission into in Nigeria if you have met all the admission requirements, i.e., they aren’t as competitive as state and federal universities.
