20 Science Majors Without Chemistry To Study

This article is mainly for candidates seeking admission into Universities in Nigeria. The major focus is to answer some questions science students are asking as regard the science majors without chemistry to study in the university.

However, some other related questions include

The major requirement for admission for science students is five credit passes in SSCE which include: Mathematics, English, Physics, Biology, Chemistry, and some other subjects like Geography and Agric. Science.

However, some Universities do accept either D7, E8 in chemistry or Physics for some certain courses.

It is very rare to see medical courses without chemistry in Nigerian Universities.

Building technology is the first science majors without chemistry. The reason this course comes first is because major of universities in Nigeria do not require chemistry to study this particular course.

Below are some of the universities that can accept either D7 or E8 in chemistry.

 (i) MAUTY accepts Mathematics and any three of Building Construction, Geography, Economics, Physics, Chemistry and Technical Drawing.

(ii) AAU Chemistry is not compulsory.

(iii) UNIJOS accepts Holders of HSC, GCE ‘A’ level passes and a minimum of two sittings in Mathematics and either Physics or Chemistry or both and credit in at least two subjects passes at ‘O’ level from the following: Building, Construction, Land Surveying, Fine Arts, Technical Drawing, Economics, Additional Mathematics, Geography including English Language.

(iv) BELLS requires Five SSCE Credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and any one from the following:, Biology, Technical Drawing, Geography, Economics, Building Construction..

(v) COVENANT requires English Language, Mathematics, Physics and additional two credit passes in the following subjects: Chemistry, Economics, Technical Drawing, Further Mathematics, Geography, Land Surveying, Building Construction, Biology and Agricultural Science. At least a pass in Chemistry is also required.

(vi) CALEB requires five SSCE credit passes or its equivalent in Mathematics, English Language, Physics and any two of Building Construction, Technical Drawing, Economics, Biology, Chemistry and Geography.

(vii) ABSU requires five SSCE credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Physics and any two subjects from Chemistry, Technical Drawing, Geography, Arts and Economics or any NTC relevant subjects.

(viii) BAUCHI requires five SSCE credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Physics and Any other two subjects from Chemistry, Geography, Economics, technical Drawing or relevant trade subjects.

(ix) FUTA – The 5th subject should be taken from Economics, Geography, Further Mathematics, Building Construction and Technical Drawing.

(x) ABU requires five ‘0’ level credit passes in English Language, Mathematics and Physics plus any two of the following: Chemistry, Biology, Fine Arts or Technical Drawing, Economics and Further Mathematics.

  • Geography and Meteorology

UNIZIK only requires Geography and any two from Mathematics, Economics, Physics, Fine Arts, Agricultural Science, Biology and Chemistry. This implies chemistry is not compulsory if you have other subjects.

  • Architecture

Architecture is another science majors without chemistry that you can study in the University. Some schools require at least a credit pass (C6). However, the schools listed below do not require chemistry to study the course provided you have a credit pass in other subject required.

AAU and ABSU – Chemistry not compulsory

UNILAG requires credit passes in English, Mathematics, Physics, Fine Arts or Tech. Drawing and any of Economics, Chemistry, Geography or Biology.

UNIJOS accepts five credit passes at ‘O’ level Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination or equivalent and must include: English Language, Mathematics, Physics, either Technical Drawing or five Arts and Applied Arts and one of the following: History, Economics, Geography, Chemistry.

MAUTY, and BAUCHI requires five ‘O’ level credit passes in Mathematics, English Language, Physics and two others from any of Chemistry, Technical Drawing, Fine Art, Geography, Economics, Building Construction and Land Surveying.

 ESUTECH requires credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Physics and any two from Chemistry, Art, Geography, Biology and Economics.

JABU requires five credit passes English Language, Physics, Mathematics, chemistry and any one of the following Geography, Fine Art, Woodwork, Technical Drawing, Biology or Economics plus National Diploma in relevant subjects at Upper Credit level.

UNIOSUN requires Five “O” Level credit passes including English Language, Mathematics and Physics and any two credits from Technical Drawing, Chemistry, Geography, Fine Arts, Economics and at least a pass in Chemistry.

ABU requires Five ‘0’ level credit passes including English Language, Physics and Mathematics, plus any two of, Geography, Fine Arts, Technical Drawing, Wood/Metal Work.

UNN requires SSSC or its equivalent with credit in Mathematics, English Language, Physics and any two of the following: Technical Drawing, Building Const., Woodwork, Fine Art, Geography and Economics.

 FUTA requires five credit passes at the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) or NECO or GCE O/L or its equivalent at NOT more than two sittings in the following subjects: English Language, Mathematics and Physics; and two credits from Technical Drawing, Chemistry, Geography, Fine Arts and Economics. Candidates must have at least a pass in Chemistry.

BELLS requires Five SSCE Credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Physics, and any two from the following: Chemistry, Biology, Technical Drawing/Fine Arts, Geography, Economics, Building Construction and Land Surveying

  • Quantity Surveying, Surveying and Geoinformatics, Land Surveying

This course has the same requirements as Architecture. So the universities named under Architecture also do not require chemistry to study this particular course.

  • Transport Management Technology

Under this course, it is only in FUTMINNA that you can study this course without chemistry. The SSCE subject requirement is credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Geography, Physics and Economics.

  • Meteorology

FUTA requires five SSCE credit passes at the WASSCE or NECO or GCE O’ Level or its equivalent in NOT more than two sittings in the following subjects: English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or Geography and any other science subject.

  • Physics

UNICAL require credits in Biology/Chemistry

UI requires 5 or 6 credit passes at one or two sittings to include English. Language, Mathematics, Physics, and any other two Science subjects.
