Regular Email Addresses And SIM Cards Are Recommended For JAMB Registration

Some candidates have faced issues regarding their email and SIM cards during the UTME and Direct entry processes. Most of those issues are related to SIM loss and the inability to access email. I will reiterate that you can’t change your email on the JAMB portal. It is not among the features that you can change. Although in one of my articles, I gave a hint on how you can go around it, your chances of having it back are not high.

It is crucial to use your regular phone number and email linked to your phone for your UTME and DE processes. This ensures that you have easy and secure access to any messages without the hassle of constantly inputting your password. By doing so, you will have easy access to any information from JAMB as regards your admission processes.

During the registration process, it’s essential to avoid mistakes in your details and ensure that the phone number and email you provide are easily accessible. Be proactive by having all the necessary details to retrieve your email address if your phone is lost. Write down your password and keep it in a safe place, note the security questions and their answers. By being prepared, you can avoid potential issues and feel more confident in your JAMB registration.

Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) made a statement as regards this issue in their September bulletin. The Board said

“Email addresses and SIM cards E(phones) used for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and Direct Entry (DE) processes are not exclusive to these processes. The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has observed that some candidates create new email accounts and purchase SIM cards specifically for UTME/DE purposes. Unfortunately, because these are not their usual email addresses or phone numbers, candidates often forget the passwords or misplace the SIM cards. This leads to requests for password resets or SIM swaps at our offices, which we are unable to accommodate.”

“To avoid these issues, the Board strongly advise all prospective candidates to use their regular email addresses and SIM cards when creating profiles or engaging in any JAMB-related processes. Creating new accounts or purchasing new SIMs specifically for UTME/DE is not recommended. Please be aware that JAMB does not reset email passwords or change registered email addresses for security reasons. Additionally, we do not allow SIM swaps. Once an email address is registered with the Board, it is treated as a personal detail and cannot be altered. If you forget the access details for the email you used, and cannot utilize the “forgot password” feature on your own to recover it, you will be unable to perform operations that require that email.”
