Science comes from the Latin word “scientia,” meaning knowledge. Science is knowledge attained through study or practice, or knowledge covering general truths of the operation of general laws, especially as obtained and tested through scientific method [and] concerned with the physical world.
This article will give you the list of courses under science in Nigerian Universities approved by the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) for all schools in Nigeria. You will see the courses under the science faculty if you check the JAMB brochure.

Admission Requirements for all Science Courses
- You must have five O’level credits, not more than two sittings, including Mathematics, English, and Chemistry. The remaining two subjects could be Biology, Physics, Agricultural Science, and Geography. However, in most cases, physics and biology are required for science courses.
- JAMB subject combination for science courses includes the use of English, Chemistry, Physics, Biology, or Mathematics, depending on the course you want to study
- Candidates seeking admission through Direct entry must have at least Upper credit in science-related courses. Also, if you want to use Cambridge A level result, you must at least have BBB in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Mathematics (3 of these subjects are needed depending on the course you want to study)
- If you want to study in Nigeria, you must write UTME and score above the JAMB cut-off mark required by your chosen University.
- You will also sit for Post-UTME and score above 55% for those who want to study science courses in Nigeria.
I know some of you might be interested in the best courses to study in science. Well, the answer isn’t straightforward as all the courses have the potential to earn you a living. However, based on relevance and current technological development, computer science will be number one on my list. Also, considering the number of applicants and cut-off mark for this course, it shows it is a hot cake. This doesn’t mean other science courses aren’t hotcakes, but the current preference is high.
