So many people are interested in Nigerian Universities ranked annually by the NUC; interestingly, the National Universities Commission (NUC) has started ranking public Universities in Nigeria.

Ranking of Universities in the country was stopped for a while, however, the Executive Secretary of the commission cleared the air early this year that a committee has been constituted that will advise the Commission on the ranking of Universities in Nigeria.

Latest: Times Higher Education has released its 2024 university ranking. Covenant University (801-1000), University of Ibadan (801-1000), Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA) (1001-1200), University of Lagos (1001-1200), and Bayero University (1201-1500). were ranked as the best universities in Nigeria respectively. CU came first, UI came second, and FUTA came third.

According to the NUC Universities ranking, the University of Ibadan (UI) ranked as the best university in the country. In contrast, Ladoke Akintola University ranked as the best state university in Nigeria.

Every year, webometric research universities in Nigeria according to their four ranking factors. The “Webometrics Ranking of World Universities” is an initiative of the Cybermetrics Lab, a research group belonging to the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC), the largest public research body in Spain.

In addition, every year, JAMB always releases a list of preferred universities. These are schools that students used to choose during registration. This will also hint at universities that Nigerians consider the best.

According to the 2024 University ranking, the University of Ibadan emerged as the best university in Nigeria, Covenant University emerged as the best private university in the ranking of 2nd in the national ranking, and Landmark University surfaced in the top 10. Lastly, the best state university is Ladoke Akintola University, Ogbomosho, which ranks in the 12th position.
